Daniel Callaghan
Daniel Callaghan is a Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) with 25 years of law enforcement experience, including 17 years with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). He recently returned to HSI’s Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) after being selected to serve as Unit Chief.
The Financial Crimes Unit supports HSI financial investigations and works to protect U.S. financial systems from transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). HSI targets the financial aspects of every criminal case, focusing on identifying, seizing, and forfeiting illicit proceeds and dismantling financial networks. With access to extensive financial and trade data, HSI disrupts TCO operations and seizes hundreds of millions of dollars annually. FCU also strengthens partnerships with law enforcement and the private sector through outreach and information sharing, enhancing efforts to combat financial threats.
SSA Callaghan was recently assigned as the Group Supervisor for HSI Baltimore's National Security Investigations Group which encompasses Counter Proliferation Investigations, HSI representation on the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), oversees the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) program, and Counter Threat Lead Development investigations.
Before his assignment in Baltimore, SSA Callaghan was a Section Chief in the HSI Financial Crimes Unit in Washington, D.C. In this capacity, he oversaw several critical programs, including the Cryptocurrency Investigations Program, Cornerstone Outreach Program, Money Service Bureau Liaison, ACAMS Liaison, and Organized Retail Crime initiatives for HSI.
